Our 169 Year History:
The Mechanics Institute Village Hall (formerly The Mechanics Institute) was established and built as a 2-story building in 1852 as part of the great Victorian Education and Training initiative.
In 1936 the top storey was removed, and the large hall was added.
The building was upgraded in 2002 by adding a side annex to the hall and creating a catering style kitchen, disabled access and enhanced toilet facilities.
The building over the years has served as a general community hall, a venue for family celebration, a teaching space, a doctor’s surgery, a theatre, a library, a sports hall and continues to be available for public hire.
These Halls’ constitutions were based on the original ethos of the Mechanics Institute Movement and is one of the few remaining still in existence in the UK.
We continue to invest and improve the facilities,
currently with a plan for a coffee lounge.
Wi-Fi coming soon!
